Justice Club Constitution
Article 1 – Name
The
club’s official name will be the “Social Justice Club”. No
other name will be used in the advertisement of the club
Article 2 –
Mission Statement
The
Mission of the Social Justice Club is to raise consciousness about
social justice issues, encourage positive social change and celebrate
diversity and community.
Article 3 –
Membership
- Membership is
open to everyone
- Only students
of the University of Western Ontario are able to hold voting
privileges.
- Kings
Students must hold half of the executive positions in the Social
Justice Club.
- Associate
non-voting members shall be allowed to participate in club events
or attend executive meetings
Article 4 –
Executive
- The Executive
Committee shall at least consist of:
- The President
- The Vice President
- The Treasurer
- The Secretary
- The Executive
Committee will work on a consensus basis in which all members of
the executive have to agree on major decisions unanimously.
- If all the available
options to achieving consensus have been exhausted the chair may
decide to put a decision to a vote. In case
of a vote the majority will make a decision on behalf of the club.
Article 5 –
Duties of the Executive
President
- Will oversee the other
members of the executive in their duties
- Will chair all
meetings
- Will have signing
authority for the club
Vice-President
- Will assist the
President in his/her duties
- Will assume all powers
of the president in his/her absence
- Will be responsible
for recording the minutes of all meetings
- Will have signing
authority for the club
Treasurer
- Will be responsible
for all financial dealings of the club
- Will keep complete
records of all financial dealings of the club
- Will have signing
authority for the club
Secretary
- Will be responsible
for the maintenance of the club website
- Will be responsible
for the maintenance of the club email list and membership list
- Will be responsible
for recording the minutes of meetings in the case of the VP’s
absence
Article
6 – Finances
- A minimum membership
fee will be set by the V.P. Operations annually, but that amount
may be exceeded provided approval from the V.P. Operations is
obtained.
Article 7 –
Meetings
- At least three general
meetings shall be held during the school year, including the Annual
General Meeting for a new executive.
- Members will be
informed of each of these meetings at least seven days in advance.
Article 8 – Elections
- All election
procedures will abide by the policies set out in Article 5 of the
KCSC Clubs’ Policy
Article 9 –
Amendments
- Amendments to the
constitution must win a two-thirds majority vote of members present.
- Amendments to the
constitution must be approved by the V.P. Operations and Club
Coordinator.
Article 10 –
Impeachment, Resignations
- Any member of the club
who commits an act negatively affecting the interests of the club
and its members may be given notice of impeachment.
- The impeached
individual will have the right to defend his/her actions.
- A two-thirds majority
vote of the members present will result in the removal of the
impeached individual from the club and the loss of any privileges
associated with the club.
- If the president
resigns from his/her duties then the vice president will assume the
role of president and elections for the vice president position
will be held at the next available meeting.
- If any other member of
the executive resigns then an election for that position will be
held at the next available meeting.
Article 11 –
Agency Clause
- The Social Justice
Club is an annexe of the King’s College Students’ Council.
- Its views and actions
do not represent those of the King’s College Students’ Council.
