Academic Year 2002/2003:
  • A New Beginning
    • This year marked the re-emergence of the Social Justice Club at King's.  KCSC officially recognized the SJC at the beginning of the year and gave the club their first budget.
  • Social Justice at King’s Presentation
    • This was our first event of the year.  Pascal Murphy led a discussion about the future of the Social Justice Club.  We discussed with our members what they would like to see in the club (Speakers? Events? Protests? Etc…) and allowed them to set the agenda for the year.  This was also a chance for our members to meet one another and discuss what brought them to the Club.
  • The Power of Social Change
    • Professor Ross Gibbons, who teaches Environmental Politics, from the Political Science Department at King’s, gave a presentation to the Social Justice Club on “The Power of Social Change.”  He discussed a number of influential people who had been apart of social justice movements and we engaged in discussion on the topic.
  • Buy Nothing Day at King's
    • The Social Justice Club set up a booth were information about Buy Nothing Day and our levels of consumption were given to students.
  • Anti-War / Peace Protests
    • The Social Justice Club members participated in a number of protests against the war in Iraq.  Some of us gathered at King's and went to the protests together.
  • School of the Americas (Picture of Protest)
    • Pascal Murphy (Club President) shared his experiences of a protest against the School of the Americas in Columbus Georgia in November 2002.  The presentation raised issues of torture, neo-imperialism, war and injustice.  Donations were collected to help keep youth off the streets.
  • Inner City Walk in Toronto  (Picture of Group, Picture of Homelessness Display)
    • This trip was the biggest event of the year.  We went to Toronto and were led around the streets by people who have: previously worked in prostitution, struggled with transgendered issues, lived on the street as single mothers and/or struggled with drugs and alcohol.  On the bus ride back to London some incredible conversation and planning for the future of the club ensued.  And there was complete agreement that this trip should be done again next year, hopefully in London.
  • Homelessness in London
    • Chuck Lazenby from the Unity Project in London came to speak with the club about Homelessness in London at our wine and cheese event.  It was very informative as well as a great way for the club to celebrate the year and start to think about future goals.
  • Organizing Committee 2002/2003
    • Pascal Murphy - President
    • Katherine Molineux - Vice-President
    • Lisa Ditchburn - Treasurer
    • Aziel McKenna - Secretary
    • Andrew Crosbie - Tech Support
  • A Great Beginning
    • We had an amazing year for a first year club with 40 members and 138 people on the email list.  Everybody was very encouraging and helpful.  Thanks to all how participated!
Academic Year 2003/2004:
  • Summer Meeting
    • The SJC had a summer meeting in order to plan for the coming year.  We sent out an email to last year's members asking them to send in their suggestions for this academic year.
