Social
Justice and Peace Studies Alternative Media Resources List
Mainstream media has
become increasingly attached to profits and the interests of big business
often at the expense of independent analysis, objective
journalism and public common interest. The following
alternative media websites offer different perspectives than that found in
the mainstream media and could be of great interest to Social Justice
and Peace Studies students. Please explore the following websites
with openness and criticism. This list is certainly not exhaustive, if you have a suggestion or an addition then please email the web administrator at sjpsweb@uwo.ca The ACTivist Magazine is a
toolkit for building a better world, published quarterly by ACT for the
Earth. The ACTivist Magazine explores the interconnections of peace,
ecology and human rights through various activist campaigns and
experiences. By bringing these issues together in people's minds, the
ACTivist seeks to educate and engage its readers in the arts of
resistance.

ADBUSTERS
Adbusters offers incisive philosophical articles as well as activist commentary from around the world addressing issues ranging from genetically modified foods to media concentration. In addition, our annual social marketing campaigns like Buy Nothing Day and TV Turnoff Week have made us an important activist networking group. Ultimately, though, Adbusters is an ecological magazine, dedicated to examining the relationship between human beings and their physical and mental environment. We want a world in which the economy and ecology resonate in balance. We try to coax people from spectator to participant in this quest. We want folks to get mad about corporate disinformation, injustices in the global economy, and any industry that pollutes our physical or mental commons. http://www.adbusters.org/ ALTERNET AlterNet's online magazine provides a mix of news, opinion and investigative journalism on subjects ranging from the environment, the drug war, technology and cultural trends to policy debate, sexual politics and health issues.
